Cincinnati and Florence are two busy areas near the state line. People often travel between the two areas, driving from one state to the other frequently for gatherings, personal trips and work.
Sometimes, airport traffic gets out of hand, and that can lead to serious collisions. Two busy roadways combine near the airport — I-275 and Airport Access Road. Traffic is heavy, and people tend to speed because of the potential for getting stuck at traffic lights.
In stop-and-go traffic like there is near an airport, you need to drive defensively. How can you do that?
- Start by signaling early. Make sure other people have time to see that you plan to make a turn. If you’re entering an intersection, make sure you look both ways and don’t enter the intersection if traffic to either side appears as if it isn’t stopping for a red light.
- Stay focused. Don’t get distracted by passengers, your radio or GPS system. These areas have many stops and starts, but that doesn’t mean you can take your eyes off the road. If anything, you should be monitoring traffic more carefully.
- Leave room in front of you. This tip can help save your life and prevent multiple vehicles from getting caught up in a crash. If you leave space in front of your vehicle when you’re stopped, any rear-end collision caused will hopefully not impact the vehicle in front of you. This prevents front-end damage to your car and a secondary rear-end collision.
Stop-and-go traffic can be annoying and a hassle, but these tips can help you stay safer.
