In Kentucky, people rush home after work to avoid getting stuck in slow traffic. Florence is particularly well-known for traffic jams and delays since it’s so close to Cincinnati. When the rush hour comes, most residents do their best to stay off the highway and surrounding roads.
Despite your best efforts, you’ll probably end up in traffic at some point if you live in Florence. How can you avoid a crash when there are multiple lanes of traffic moving at different speeds? That’s the real question. There’s no way to account for everyone else’s actions, but you can take steps to avoid a crash yourself.
1. Stay in your lane
One of the best things you can do is to stay in your lane. If you stay in your lane, there’s a much lower chance of getting into a crash. If you try to merge or move into another lane, there’s always going to be a greater risk of the person approaching not seeing you or failing to allow you to merge in.
2. Take the exit
If you don’t feel comfortable in backed-up traffic, consider taking the next available exit. Getting off at the exit might delay your trip home, but you’ll be able to take back roads to get to your destination more easily.
3. Plan to wait
If you do need to stay in traffic, plan to wait it out. Bring water, a snack and stay focused on the road.
These are three things to do to avoid a crash when traffic is backed up. Be careful out there.
