Yearlong enforcement campaign begins in Kentucky

Florence, Kentucky, is on a main route between Kentucky and Ohio. As a result, the traffic there is heavy, especially on Interstate 75. There are many crashes that happen and stop the flow of traffic.

Police officers started a new campaign on Oct. 11 to help reduce crashes and to increase seat belt use. This is the first campaign of a yearlong highway safety effort that law enforcement officials will be working on in the coming months.

According to the news, the first campaign ran until Oct 14., taking aim at reducing crashes and preventing injuries by reminding drivers that they need to wear their seat belts and to use safe driving techniques. Officers focused on pulling over dangerous or reckless drivers and ticketing them when they were not wearing their seat belts.

They also took time to perform a blitz. During the blitz, they cited drivers for speeding, failing to move over for emergency vehicles, tailgating, distracted driving and more. Previously, the first blitz of the year on Oct. 1 resulted in 281 citations.

The yearlong effort in Florence means that there will be a visible increase in the number of officers as well as the number of enforcement actions being taken.

If you're from Florence, none of this is a surprise. People are hurt and killed regularly on I-75. If you are hurt or you lose a loved one, know your rights. You can pursue a claim to help while you spend time with your family and take care of them following the loss of a loved one from a fatal car crash.
