Get your business started right with a good name

On Behalf of | Dec 3, 2019 | Business Law

Living in Kentucky is great, especially if you’re interested in horses. There are plenty of races, horse farms and equestrian events to participate in.

If you are thinking of opening a business related to the Kentucky Derby or other equestrian activities throughout the state, you may do very well thanks to tourism and a rabid love of horses in the community. However, you still need to research the best methods for starting a small business. You need to have a plan and have your finances in order to protect yourself.

How do you choose a business name?

One of the first things that you’ll want to do is to set up your business’s identity. You may already have a business name in mind, but think it over carefully. You want a name that is easy to remember and that makes an impression because this is the name that people will recognize in the future.

Once you choose a business name, remember to register it. You need to check to see if someone else has already trademarked the name or is using it presently. If not, then you can register the name with the state.

While you’re at the county clerk, you may want to get paperwork for licenses and permits, too. There may be several that apply to your business, so you’ll need to do research to see which are right for you.
