Can you sue someone for driving too slowly?

On Behalf of | Dec 14, 2020 | Motor Vehicle Accidents, Personal Injury

When you think about dangerous driving in Kentucky, you typically think about speeding. But driving too slowly can be just as dangerous as driving too fast. In fact, some states issue fines for motorists who drive below the minimum speed limit. If you get in an accident, you might find yourself dealing with legal action.

Can you sue someone for causing an accident by driving too slowly?

Many people don’t realize that you can actually sue someone if they were driving too slowly and caused a car accident. If they were at fault, you can hold them responsible for your auto accident injuries. The other driver was acting irresponsibly because they failed to adhere to the speed limit.

Driving too slowly might sound harmless, but it can actually have serious consequences. Imagine that you are driving at the speed limit and come across a sharp curve. When you round the curve, you are greeted by a car driving at half the speed limit. You could easily end up slamming into that person’s vehicle.

Even if it doesn’t cause an accident, driving too slowly can still be a nuisance to other drivers. A motorist could hold up an entire line of traffic by driving too slowly on the road. If you’re on a single-lane road, there’s no safe way to pass a slow-moving vehicle. The more cars get lined up, the more frustrated everybody becomes. This can create an unsafe driving environment and lead to accidents and lawsuits.

How can an attorney help you after an accident?

If the other driver was at fault, an attorney may be able to help you prove that they were liable for the accident. As a result, you may be eligible for compensation from the driver or their insurance company, which might otherwise refuse to pay out compensation.
