How can lower back pain impact your life?

On Behalf of | Jun 18, 2021 | Personal Injury

Back pain is one of those injuries that many people suffer from at some point in their life. Despite the frequency, however, many people tend to underestimate the impact that lower back pain can actually have.

Unfortunately, severe lower back pain has the potential to completely change the course of your life. But how does it do this?

Back pain causing surgery

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke discusses lower back pain. There are two types of lower back pain: acute and chronic. Acute pain often lasts weeks to months, while chronic pain can last years or even indefinitely. Acute pain often comes after the onset of an injury, while chronic back pain might linger well after the injury itself has healed.

Back pain can grow so overwhelming in some cases that it forces individuals to consider surgery of the spine for relief. Many turn to heavy-duty pain medications as well, which can unfortunately lead to problems with addiction for some.

Employment with back pain

Severe back pain also tampers with your ability to hold down a job. After all, just about everything we do requires some use of your back. If you cannot use yours properly, you may struggle to sit or stand, which makes working on the clock difficult.

Of course, this creates a bad combination of lowered work hours and increased medical bills. In fact, back pain is often the cause of debt in many American households. It is also why individuals may pursue compensation if harmed due to the negligence of another party. It allows you to pay for medical expenses without worrying about falling entirely into debt.
